Are you confessing to be a Christian but living without the Holy Spirit.
“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me,” Galatians :2-20.
Life truly is a journey of faith whether one wants to believe it or not. As years are added to my life I have often wondered, Why? Why, I was touched by the Spirit of God at a young age; Why, I was protected from events over my life that would have been totally devastating; Why, I have lived so long? Now in the later years of life I no longer ask, “Why;” I simply ask, “What is the next step I am to take? Where is God leading me, and what will He have me to do.”
I never fully understood the sin nature of man and how that nature could be changed. The “humanistic nature of man” ---called the sin nature in biblical scriptures---is natural and normal and everyone is born with that nature. There are no exceptions. Greed, lying, jealousy, envy, stealing, and lust are just a few of the negative human nature attributes that may be encountered on any given day. Likewise, the opposite of these are positive attributes: “I don’t lie, cheat or go with girls who do,” or so the old saying goes. I guess that is the reason I never dated a lot (Just a little humor to bring a smile to your face, hopefully.). We all have them---positive and negative attributes---and each life is on a pendulum at any given moment in time between extremes of positive and negative.
The Bible records that in the beginning man was created to walk and commune with His creator in the Garden of Eden in purity of actions and thought. It is my belief that God did not want man to be a cuddly puppy but wanted a companion with whom He could commune and interact. God took a great risk in allowing man to have self-will / self-determination to choose how he would live life. It appears that most men choose to believe they are their own god and to satisfy their own pleasures. The Bible uses the story of Adam and Eve’s deception by Lucifer, a created angle of God, to tell how sin originated in man; can you think of a better way to describe what happened?
I am writing this “mini-sermon,” as I like to call my blogs because of their lengths, to those who are confessing to be Christians but who are not living the TRUTH of Christianity. However, its application also applies to those who do not believe in the Creator God of heaven and earth.
Let me begin. If you are confessing to be a Christian---a follower of Jesus Christ---but are living without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, you have made an emotional decision but not a life changing commitment decision in faith. In other words, you are a Christian in name only. You may do righteous deeds, good works and live a moral life, but you have failed to understand what the true Christian walk---you must deny yourself and follow me---with Jesus Christ is all about.
Consider the words spoken by Jesus and recorded in Matthew 17:21-23: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles? And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS’.”
Let me digress back to the basics of Christianity by presenting what hopefully will be an understanding of the fundamentals of Christianity. The Good News for mankind is the Gospel Message: Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again (1st Corinthians 15:1-8). God calls those who seek Him to repentance through Jesus Christ our Lord. Answering His call by believing in faith the Gospel Message is the beginning of the Newness of Life---to be Born Again. With the New Birth (the newness of a changed spiritual life) comes the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. For the Holy Spirit to dwell (live spiritually) in you and become your seal and pledge as a child of God providing your with the “tools” to live by the Spiritual nature and not by the humanistic nature, you must surrender your self- will and abide in Him---Jesus Christ. By His indwelling, your humanistic / animalistic nature is subdued by the Spiritual Nature of God’s Holy Spirit.
As stated earlier, man’s human nature has both positive and negative attributes. The positive and negative attributes contend against one other in a never ending battle; do I lie or not lie, do I steel or not steel, do I lust or not lust and ad infinitum. Many try to subdue the negative side, but it is always there surfacing unobstructed at opportune moments when lust, greed, envy, jealousy and the like make their presence known.
The human nature is the sin nature of man as the biblical scriptures so descriptively state. God declared that no one is righteous. Man in his own initiative cannot change his nature no matter how hard he tries and no matter how much “positive thinking” is thought. Consider this, some think that by, “thinking it,” they will receive it. For instance, if one thinks hard enough or believes they will win the lottery or receive a lump sum of money---the lust, desire or need for any materialistic item---God will provide. If you are a true believer in Jesus Christ and are indwelled / walking in God’s Spirit, your needs are know by God (your Father), and they will be provided to you in His timing and for His purpose.
Likewise, prayers are only answered for those who are indwelled by God. These are the teachings of the Holy Scriptures (Bible) and are manifested (made known) only to those who are children and followers of Jesus Christ. BEWARE, Lucifer is the great deceiver masquerading as an angel of light; he can deceive and conquer your humanistic and spiritual nature easily by twisting scriptural truths into feels good, look good, doctrines.
The indwelling Holy Spirit of God can and will give man the strength and willingness to subdue his sin nature---all that man knows until he has been enlightened. This is the Newness of Life and can be found only in Jesus Christ. Jesus must become your Lord and Savior. Jesus’ mercy and His mercy alone is your KEY to eternal life; your past, present and future sins will all be forgiven and washed away never to be remembered again.
Your freedom from the sin nature and judgment does not give you pardon to be both righteous and unrighteous in your daily walk. The righteousness of man and the righteousness of God are not one and the same. Man seeks to be righteous by living according to esthetical and moral principles; by doing what is “right, just and good” in his own eyes. Doing so is unfortunately the present status of most Christians; they have been deceived to believe the spiritual forces of darkness.
Man can only be declared righteous by faith and belief in the death and resurrection of Christ. In other words, man must depend upon the righteousness of God and not his, man’s, own righteousness. A life of righteousness can only be lived by the power of God through His Holy Spirit.
If you are confessing to be a Christian by the knowledge you have of Him but you are not indwelled by the Holy Spirit and truly possess Him in your heart, please listen. Jesus is standing at the doorway of your spiritual heart and is knocking. Do you hear Him knocking? If so, open your door and allow Him to enter. Deny your self-will and accept His will and become a true Born Again believer into the Newness of Life. You will never be the same.
