The Holy Spirit is the least discussed and perhaps the least understood member of the Biblical Trinity—God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and God the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not a mystery person that is hidden in the Scriptures of the Bible.
The Holy Spirit has in the past, is at the present and will be in the future the implementer, helper and comforter, if you will believe, in God’s plan for man and the earth; since his creative beginning as described in Genesis, man’s walk in God’s Spirit throughout history and in the final days of man’s walk on earth will be understood only by those who have been called by God and who have listened to and obeyed His commandments.
Before we move on in our discussion, however, you must decide what you will do with the Trinity of God. Your decision is not complicated. You either by faith believe in the Trinity of God or you do not. Also, let’s be clear that we are talking about the God of the Bible—the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—and not some other god. There is only one God, and that God is the same God worshipped both in the Old Testament and the New Testament.
Not only do you have to decide about your belief in God, you also have to decide if you believe the Bible is the Word of God given to men through the inspiration of God’s Holy Spirit. The Word of God is Truth, but the Truth of the Bible can only be understood when it is read and studied by believers who have allowed the Holy Spirit of God to indwell their new, “born again,” spiritual hearts. You either believe the whole Bible is God’s Truth or you cannot accept any of it as Truth.
There are many churches / denominations today that are not indwelled by the Holy Spirit, and they are the apostate churches spoken of in end time prophesy. I believe the ”Great Apostasy,” spoken of in the Book of Revelation will be when the Antichrist sits in the reconstructed Jewish Temple and declares that he is “God” and Jews and Gentiles alike, except for the elect, will honor him as “God.”
Let’s continue. The Holy Spirit will become active in a person’s heart when (1) they accept the Gospel Message of Jesus Christ—Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4 NIV) —, and (2) they allow the Holy Spirit to give them a new spiritual heart—to be born again in the newness of LIFE.
If you do not have the Holy Spirit of God you have not been saved by Grace, and you will not enter the kingdom of Heaven. You cannot have salvation and receive the Holy Spirit without confession and belief. “…if you will confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation,” Romans 10:9-10 NIV). Also, Jesus said: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me,” John 14:6 NIV). Jesus Christ is the only way to the kingdom of Heaven.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. He was sent by Jesus at Pentecost, for all who will confess and believe, to build Christ’s church on earth. Every true believer is a Temple of God that possesses His Spirit. The Holy Spirit reveals and comforts believers in the understanding of wisdom, knowledge and the things of Christ for the building of His church.
The church cannot do anything without the Holy Spirit. It is clear in the Scriptures that the Spiritual things of God cannot be understood by the natural, unspiritual, man. The Holy Spirits calls pastors, elders, deacons and teachers to Christ’s church and makes them overseers in the fellowship of believers. They are, or at least should be, specifically called by the Holy Spirit to fulfill their roles.
It is sad to say that many churches in today’s world are not led by Holy Spirit called men and women of God. Jesus has warned every church: “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches,” Revelation 2-3. If you are being led by the Holy Spirit you will be able to discern the apostates and antichrists of the church.
¹Jesus, while on this earth, was ministered to by the Holy Spirit:
Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit.
At Jesus’ baptism by John the Baptist, the Spirit of God descended on Him.
Jesus was led into the wilderness to be tested by the Spirit.
God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit and He performed mighty works.
The Spirit of the Lord anointed Jesus to preach the Gospel…to proclaim the year of the Lord.
Jesus offered Himself without blemish to God through the eternal Spirit.
Christ was put to death in the flesh but made alive in the Spirit.
Jesus gave orders to His disciples by the Holy Spirit on the day He ascended.

Jesus promised His disciples that He would send the Holy Spirit. “But now I am going to Him (God) who sent me…it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Holy Spirit) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. And He (Holy Spirit), when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment…,”John 16:5-8 (paraphrased by author).
Prayer, Bible study and listening are keys to understanding the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. They should become a part of every Christian’s daily life. Prayer is simply talking to the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) as you would talk to those around you in everyday life. The religious have tried to make it complicated and pleasing to man with rules, regulations and piety. Prayer, however, should be pleasing to God only. As I tell young people who are tuned in to technology: “I Twitter with God throughout the day and I listen, through my body, soul and spirit for God’s answers and directions for my life.”
Bible reading is crucial to the enabling of the Holy Spirit to communicate God’s will for your life. Keep in mind, however, that the Bible’s message will only be made clear to those who have accepted the Gospel Message of Jesus Christ and who have been given the New Birth by the indwelling Holy Spirit.
It is my personal belief, as I read the Parable of the Sower as taught by Jesus (Matthew 13: 1-23), that only one fourth of the people who accept the Gospel Message will truly find the Grace of God’s salvation as taught in this parable. Why? Because the majority of those who will hear and accept the Gospel Message will not fully understand and comprehend God’s only way to enter the kingdom because of their hardened hearts. They will rely on their own belief (as taught by Satan) in “the goodness of man through works” as a way to enter the kingdom of Heaven.
I wish I could tell you clearly how the Holy Spirit will speak to you but I cannot. Be patient and God will guide you. I can testify to the working of the Holy Spirit in my life. The Holy Spirit has spoken to me in the past and does in the present speak to me in an unique manner, and thus I know for absolute certainty that the Trinity of God is Truth. Many “professing Christians” refuse to believe my story, but I had rather believe in the Truth God has revealed to me rather than in the “truth” of those with little understanding of God’s Lovingkindness as shown to those who truly love and obey Him.
I walked in the wilderness for many years without an understanding of the Spirit, although the Spirit was there, until one day the veil was lifted and I could see. Pray and study the scriptures, and the veil will be removed from your life. Surrender you self-will to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to guide you in Truth, Wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding of what your walk as a disciple of Jesus Christ is all about. You will hear His voice in your spiritual hearts.
